Dairy Rose was originally on Carpenter by the hospital. In 1975 it moved to this location on Edwards. I worked there on the carry out side when it opened, then moved to the restaurant side as an asst manager during the winter months. Great times working the old register in the front with all the penny candy, 35 cent large ice cream cones, and the best soft served ice cream and potato soup. I do have an old picture of the inside on the restaurant side and will have to dig it out and post it.

In 1930 my great grandfather, Thomas Neilson, was living at 519 West Edwards in Springfield.Would this shop have been nearby? (Sorry, I'm Scottish and not used to American street naming conventions.)
By 1942 he'd moved to 1030 South 14th.

My Grandmother lived near there in the 70's. Every chance my brother and I had we would go and visit her, she would always give a dollar or two and let us walk to the Dariy Rose. I remember the wrought Iron chairs and the ordering counter was almost taller than me. We would sit with our ice cream cones and look out the window as we visited with Grandma. She is 94 now and doing great, I know she would still take me there if it was the Dairy Rose. What a great place!!!

My parents had their first place in the apartments behind there. The buildings were torn down and he visitors center sits there now. As for the Dairy Rose, my Dad proposed to my mom over an ice cream from there.

I remember Dairy Rose. Mid-to-late 1970’s would be my guess of when it was there.

Bob nailed it. The Dairy Rose Ice Cream Parlor opened at 301 W. Edwards in 1975 and closed in 1979.

This did house Dairy Rose Icecream Parlor. There was dining on the right side and carryout on the left side. This was my sister and I’s very first job and I now have purchased the buiding with my brother. It has been renovated and serving Lunch and dinner 7 days a week including serving in the gorgeous landscaped beer garden. It is now called Boone’s Uptown Grill. Come see us and the new changes.
