Not the mid 60's. If you notice Washington Street is closed, person taking picture is standing in the Old State Capital Mall.

Taken after the Old State Capital was redone.

When did the one-way streets come into play? I don't think Washington was one-way in the early 60's. Spfld. Public Works should have this info.

Ahh! the newstands in Springfield. In 1956-57, I worked the 5th and Monroe stand, all owned by Woody Shadid and his brother, I believe, and a friends of mine worked here at Broadwell's drug and the one at 6th and Monroe. And I think the former commenter is correct in that I don't see Drach's restaurant, Washington was a through street in 1960, and I think Myers' Brothers was different in 1960.

Before reading Darrin's comment, I was thinking the same thing... maybe the early 1970's. I remember when Broadwell's was remodeled, but I don't remember what the date was. (that would help with the dating). Also, I remember when Wolfson's Furniture was open downtown. The lamps on the square look "mod" from the early 70's.

I don't mean to be nitpicking, but the old photo can't be from the mid 1960's. The second car back in the turn lane on the left side of the frame is a 1972 Ford LTD. The first car parked on the right side of the photo is a 1969 Chevy Impala, and the second car is a 1967 or 1968 Olds Cutlas. The first car in the turn lane is an early 1960's Olds. I can't tell what the other cars make or model years are. The photo is more likely from the early to mid 1970's.
